Webinar: What Nature is Telling Us - Our Environment tō tātou taiao 2025

When it comes to a guide for nature, the triennial ‘state of the environment’ report has top billing. Our environment 2025 tō tātou taiao  was released 8 April 2025 by the Ministry for the Environment (MfE) and StatsNZ offering an overview across land, freshwater, marine, air, and climate domains. This synthesis of data highlights serious risks across domains but also improvements and opportunities for growth.

If we’re to reverse negative trends, we must reframe environmental data - not just as a conservation tool, but as a strategic asset. One that can help more businesses – and New Zealanders - make informed decisions for long-term resilience and economic growth.

Our webinar, featuring keynote speaker, Dr Alison Collins, Departmental Chief Science Advisor, MfE, and guest panellists discussed the importance of environmental data for business decisions and the need for consistent national data, shared data systems, and standardisation of metrics.

Thank you to our panellists Belinda van Eyndhoven (Head of Sustainability, Westpac NZ), Liz Root (Director of Sustainability & Climate Change, Aurecon), Dr Roger Young, (Manager of Freshwater Sciences, Cawthron Institute) and Natasha Lewis (Deputy Secretary, Strategy, Stewardship & Performance, MfE).
